Melanie Peterson “Christmas Breaks My Heart” single release party Friday Nov 29, 2019

Come celebrate with me and special musical guests Angela Saini and Matt Gerber at The Free Times Cafe in Toronto!

Friday, November 29th, 2019 I will be releasing my original holiday single “Christmas Breaks My Heart” on all digital platforms!

Doors open at 7:30pm

Tickets: $10 at the door

RSVP and more details HERE

About the song:

“Melanie Peterson (who, in August 2019, played the role of Susan Lopez in an episode of Amazon Prime’s new superhero series, The Boys) states, “Writing a Christmas song that actually becomes a classic seems impossible, but I keep trying. What inspired the song? To me, there is more than one side to Christmas. There’s the whimsical, childlike, magical side and then there is a melancholy, lonelier side. I was really drawn to and excited to write a sad Christmas song about someone who was facing Christmas with a broken heart. I strangely enjoyed tapping into the loneliness and sadness someone can feel when spending Christmas alone.”

“Christmas Breaks My Heart” was produced, engineered and mixed by legendary, multiple Juno Award and Polaris Prize-winning Canadian producer and musician Michael Wojewoda in Toronto (Rheostatics, Buffy Sainte-Marie, The Jerry Cans, Amelia Curran, Barenaked Ladies’ and many more). Peterson wrote the song, sang lead vocals and played acoustic guitar on the song, and Wojewoda arranged the song, played drums, bass, keys, electric guitars and shared-in on backing vocals.”

I hope I’ll have the pleasure of seeing you at the show! Hunky Peter Collins, mighty Mitch Girio and I are super excited to share the live version of the song with you!  Please feel free to reach out if you need any more details 🙂

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

Upcoming Shows and New Lyric Video (for your eyes only)

I hope October was fantabulous for you! Temperatures are dropping, but the beautiful colors that surround us this time of year make the extra layer of clothing doable!

As a  member of my mailing list (membership must have it’s privileges!) I wanted you to be the first to see the official lyric video for my new holiday single “Christmas Breaks My Heart”. The video was created by a UK animator and the song itself was written by moi and produce by Juno award winning producer Michael Wojewoda (previously of the Rheostatics). You can watch the video here: PRIVATE LINK

We Got This!

Dear friends,

I hope you enjoyed your summer!

I’ve finally finalized my 12 song choices for the new album and the album name! We Got This. It’s officially official!

The title comes from one of the songs I wrote for the new album and really sums up the entire album which is a journey from heart break to real lasting love. Warts and all. This album will be almost 3 years in the making when I release it in 2020 and I can’t wait to share it with you!

There is still time for you to be part of it! There are eight days left to contribute to my IndieGOGO crowdfunding campaign. With your contribution you can choose from house concerts, t-shirts, handwritten lyrics or get postcards from me on tour. Check it out before it’s too late and help me reach the finish line to start recording my third full length album. All contributors will get the record long before anyone else, not to mention my undying gratitude. Just CLICK HERE

I can’t wait for you to hear the new songs! Thanks for being a friend and a fan. You are helping me reach the next level just by being here, and I hope I can return the favor by releasing an album you love.

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Off To A Great Start and Everybody Makes The Cut!

Dear friends,

As some of you know, last week I launched my Indiegogo New Album funding campaign! And guess what? We’ve raised 15% thanks to many of you! So far so good! Thanks to those who have supported the campaign and believe in this new album! I could not have gotten this far without you.

Behind the scenes we are making decisions regarding what songs exactly will be on the album, and who will play on each song. There is a good chance we will have string arrangements on many of the songs, but not all of them. Drums on most. But not all. These are the kinds of things we are thinking about now.

If you want to help make this album happen, but need a little extra nudge, there is this: anyone who contributes before Sept 1 will be invited to a listening party at our apartment in November, with margaritas and Peter’s famous hummus, where we will play through all the songs on the album, in acoustic form. If that appeals to you, donate HERE!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at, anytime.

In other news: I’ll be hosting the open stage at The Cut On Queen this Wednesday August 28th. Sign up is at 7pm for those who want to play. Show starts with a short set from me at 8pm. Hope you’ll come out for a night of exciting original music at The Cut where everybody makes the cut.

Hugs and mushy stuff.

PS- here are a few photo’s of hunky Peter Collins and I playing on the Via Rail earlier this month, thanks to their Artists On Board Program, we played our way to Halifax and back.

Exciting news: We Got This!

Hello dear friends!

I have some exciting news to share with you!

It’s here! My indiegogo new album fundraising campaign is LAUNCHED and ready for all of you to check out! I’d love it if you would join me on my journey to record and release this new album! CHECK IT OUT HERE

If you’ve never heard of indiegogo, I’ve created a video to tell you more about it and about my campaign. WATCH IT HERE.

I decided it was time to record a new album because so many of you have been asking me to do just that. So thank you so much for your interest and for gently nudging me towards this third album. It really means so much. I took a year to write the songs for the new album. I wrote over 20 new songs and producer Mitch Girio and I, with the help of a few of you, have since narrowed it down to 12 songs. And now I’m super excited to get into the studio and record them. But in order to make this dream a reality, I need your help! Which is why I have launched this crowd funding campaign.

Contribute to my campaign and you will be supporting and enabling the recording of my new album! Please evaluate the campaign closely and contribute at a level you can afford and choose a reward that excites you! This will provide an exclusive experience for you and the opportunity for me to get into the studio to record 12 brand new songs for you! And if you feel inspired to contribute more than once, feel free! And if you share this campaign on your social media, that would help me out enormously. This first week is the most important and any help creating awareness would be SO appreciated!

Crowd funding is a commonly used practice utilized by thousands of musicians and supported by millions of backers over the years. You can contribute as little as $10.00 for a high quality digital download of the new album delivered directly to your inbox months before the album is officially released, or as much as $1000.00 for the executive package and the chance to receive executive producer credit on the album and weigh in on a the big decisions (song order, album cover, singles… you get the idea) not to mention VIP treatment at the album release party! I put a lot of thought into my campaign rewards, and had so much fun in coming up with rewards that might interest you. There are lots of perks to choose from, something for everyone!  And having contributed to the campaign you’ll be among the very first to hear the new album! Basically, you are doing today what a record label would have done in the past, enabling me to make, market and tour this new album. I literally could not do this without you.

Contribute HERE today, and you will receive a demo of my new song and the first single from the new album: “Damaged Goods”.

Thank you in advance for your endless support. It means so much!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

July show and new video!

It’s July (!!) and I hope you are enjoying the warm weather and birdsong! Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the house concert last month at Paul and Jen’s. If you missed it, never fear, there are more good times ahead! And bear in mind, no matter where you are in the world, if you’d like me to come to your house and play a house concert, we can make that happen. I’d like to tour far and wide in 2020. So be in touch.

I’m ready for my close up! A new video of “We Got This” shot by the fabulous Mitch Giro. Watch HERE. Let me know if you like it by leaving a comment below the video. It would mean so much to me to hear from you. And if you want to stay in the loop subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of the new music videos on the way, just for you!

I’m so thrilled to be returning to Relish, at their new location 511 Danforth Ave in Toronto, Thursday July 25th with Peter Collins on bass and Mitch Girio on guitar. It’s going to be a great night of live music and tapas! And yes, I will be playing a few of my brand new songs,  for those of you who would like to hear a few of the songs in consideration for the new album. (!!)

I’m so excited!

Hi friends!

As some of you already know, I’ve had the distinct honor of being invited, for the very first time, to play the legendary Dakota Tavern! An extremely wonderful personal benchmark in my musical career.

I am super excited to share songs from my first two albums and various EPs as well as songs for my upcoming new album, songs which I am nothing but proud of, on Saturday May 11th, 2019 7-9pm.

Accompanying me during this all ages evening of original folk-pop music will be hunky Peter Collins on bass, Mitch Girio on a guitar(s) and Lucky Pete Lambert will join us on percussion, and dazzle us with his velvety voice on backing vocals.

It goes without saying, I’d love to share this unforgettable moment with someone like YOU who loves my music enough to open my newsletter. *grateful*

The show is being sponsored by Eden Grove Cider and Lighter Up Lager which will be featured at $5 during the show. And there will be free samples before and during the show. Who doesn’t like free samples? Doors open at 6, show at 7pm.

Click HERE to enjoy an early Saturday evening of amazing music and also to celebrate one of my biggest nights so far at one of Toronto’s best music venues!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie x

PS-there will be a FREE coaster sized Melanie Peterson sticker, to do with as you will, for anyone who mentions to Marisa at the merch table that you are on my mailing list.

PPS- for those out of town folks who can’t make the show, but still want a sticker, I’ll hook you up. Just shoot me an email or reach out to me on my Facebook music page HERE

First Spring Show!

“Bed In” photo in the John Lennon/Yoko Ono Room at the Fairmont Hotel in Montreal.

Wishing you all a peaceful spring, in advance! 🙂

I am excited to play my first show of Spring 2019 on Saturday March 30th! It will be an intimate house concert. It’s $20 to reserve your seat in advance (and to reveal the location!) Mitch, Peter and I hit the “stage” at 7pm. I have some new songs to share with you, as well as many of your favs from my first two albums and various EPs. There will be snacks and non-alcoholic beverages provided, but feel free to BYOB.

HERE is a special video of “What You’re Selling” shot by the talented Mitch Girio who captured the intimacy of the lyrics and music of the song through the use of close ups.

Thank you for being part of my musical journey. I could not do this without you, and wouldn’t want to. I spent most of 2018 writing and therefore I have so much new music coming in 2019/2020 and you will be the first to hear it! Plus there is another remix EP in the works! Refresher Vol. 3!

Have an amazing spring and I hope to see a few of you at the upcoming house concert. It’s going to be lots of fun, no doubt about it! Feel free to email me directly at for more information and to grab your ticket(s).

Hugs and mushy stuff,
