Songwriter’s Circle at the Free Times and CP24 live interview and performance

Dear friends,

I returned yesterday from another 10 day silent retreat and I must say, I feel extremely refreshed.  I lived like a monk for 10 days, living off the charity of others, meditating for 10 hours a day. I enjoyed every moment of it, even my tiny quarters!

The retreat center I went to is called the Ontario Vipassana Center and it is located in Minden, On. Just far enough away from the city to be ripe with fresh air and quiet! The meditation technique taught on the course is called Vipassana and has been handed down in pristine purity through the centuries. If you want to learn more about these 10 day silent retreats, please reach out to me. There are retreat centers all over the world!

There is nothing like ten days of silence and meditation to make you want to express your creativity! So I am happy to announce that this Friday night I will be part of a line up of talented Toronto artists and we will be singing our songs in order to help support the Yonge Street Mission Evergreen Youth Centre for Street-Involved Youth. This program has improved both individual lives and communities. Out of approximately 10,000 street-involved youth in this city, YSM Evergreen served 6500 youth in 2014-2015.

Bring new socks, new or (gently used) mitts, gloves, hats, to help YSM provide these items to street-involved youth, during the winter months.

Friday January 27th
Doors open 8:30 pm
Show starts at 9 pm
Free Times Café – 320 College Street, just west of Spadina at Major St.

$10 Cover, Free admission with Donation.

These folks will be sharing the bill with me:

Alison Jane

Chris Birkett

Mitch Girio

Plus one or two special guests TBA.

Please RSVP HERE if you think you can make it, and do let me know if you need more deets! It’s going to be a great night of live music for a great cause! And I plan to sing one or two brand new tunes for you, songs that may very well end up on my next album.

We hope to see you there. Please share this with others, bring your friends, the more the merrier.

And for those of you who missed my live performance and interview on CP24 in December, you can check it out HERE.

And for those who are not Toronto based and can’t make it to the show on Friday night, I will be sharing new music, a side project I’ve recently completed with producer Mitch Girio (seen above) very soon!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

My 2nd appearance on CP24!

Hello friends!

Check out this awesome lyric video my 13 year old guitar/songwriting student Rita Riedstra made for Santa’s Sleigh! It’s pretty heartwarming to get this kind of support from a student. I hope you guys like it and feel free to share it if you feel so inclined.

Be sure to tune in to CP24 in Toronto Sunday, December 18th where I’ll be performing Santa’s Sleigh live with the amazing Mitch Girio on guitar and hunky Peter Collins on bass.

I’ll be back in 2017 with new music for you! Until then, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and happy new year!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

I hope that you are having an amayzing December so far.  Thanks to your support we packed the house at Castro’s last Saturday and the news is I will have the opportunity to play there again in the new year. The show wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without you there, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Announcing “Santa’s Sleigh” upcoming holiday single release!

I am happy to announce the upcoming release of my holiday single called “Santa’s Sleigh”.  It’s an original holiday tune and you are the first to see the artwork!

The song was produced by Chris Birkett (most well know for producing Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U) at Revolution Recording with Peter Collins on bass and Pete Lambert on drums.   I will send links to the single AND a video for the single in my next newsletter!

I was recently in Maynooth, playing a show at the delightful Arlington Hotel with Peter Collins on bass and Mitch Girio on guitar.  That show was the last of my tour dates for Anywhere From Here and quite a fun finale!

Introducing the new music video “Miss You Already”

I released my new music video Miss You Already today and here is a brief story about it…

Miss You Already, the video, was my first video shoot outside of Toronto. I had a concert to perform at Mahtay in St. Catherines so Nick Lim (editor and cinematographer) and I decided to shoot a video as part of the experience.

You will see many familiar faces in the video (Mellie’s) as well as Lucky Pete Lambert on drums and Steve Clark on bass (filling in for the hunky Peter Collins).

Recently, an on line resource center for grief and healing called ‘Love Lives On” complied an article titled “150 + Best Funeral Songs” and Miss You Already was featured in the “up and coming” artist section.  There is even a link where viewers can find my song and purchase it on my website. Cool.

Last but certainly not least, the 15th edition of Toronto’s Winterfolk festival will run from Feb 17-19, 2017, presenting top notch local roots music acts (including moi!) A preview fundraising concert will take place at The Free Times Cafe Sunday Oct 30th, featuring host Glen Hornblast and many top notch local roots music acts (including moi!) Hope to see you there!

Thank you for your continued support! Hugs and mushy stuff!
