Announcing the Third Video release from my New EP!

Thank you so much for following my lyric video journey with my new re-mix EP “Refresher Vol.2”! Announcing the third track and final lyric video in this series: “Don’t Tell Me”! Don’t Tell Me is a plea for acceptance song, an if you love someone, set them free, and if they are truly yours, they will come back to you, given space and time and they will see you as you truly are song. It was released on my debut album “Unbreakable” and the original is available on all digital platforms and streaming services. The remix is available exclusively on MY BANDCAMP PAGE.  (Follow me on Bandcamp and be among the first to have access to my upcoming folk EP followed by my third full length album!)

Photo: Frank Caruso.          Design: Mitch Girio

I will be performing a solo show (gasp!) and sharing songs I am considering for my upcoming album (and asking for song feedback for those who are interested in casting their vote re: which songs should go on the new album) and playing some of your favorite Melanie Peterson tunes in a very stripped down manner (the tunes, not me) on Nov 8! Deets:

Thursday November 8, doors 8:30pm

Corks and Platters 2220 Queen Street E (lots of street parking out front or just take the Queen 501 Street car east)

No cover, but there will be a generosity jar, for tips for the songwriter…yay:)

And please check out the lyric video, comment, share, like and/or subscribe to my youtube channel to be among the first to see what’s next. Thanks to Mitch Girio’s glorious remix “Don’t Tell Me” sounds completely fresh! Here is the the vid, featuring the thundering Moon River in Bala!

And thanks for being a friend and fan. It’s so kind of you to support me and my music and I want you to know I appreciate it. And if you don’t absolutely love this remix and don’t decide to pick up the EP on Bandcamp,  Don’t Tell Me!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Songwriter’s Session @ Hugh’s Room Live

Dear friends,

Please join me on Tuesday, October 9th, and meet a group of amazing songwriters.  Hugh’s Room Live is home to many a concert featuring Canada’s best singer/songwriters. Their new Songwriter Sessions Series explores songcraft in a round robin format, with us artists peeling back the stories behind our work. Crossing genres and tapping into the natural Canadian gift of open, honest lyrics and tunes, I’ve been invited to delve deep and share my songs with you. Here are the deets:

Tony Quarrington, Andrea Ramolo, David Leask, Melanie Peterson

DOORS 6PM/ MUSIC 8:30PM • $20 adv/$25 door

2261 DUNDAS STREET WEST, TORONTO • 416.533.LIVE (5483) hughsroomlive.com

Here are some details about the talented folks I’ll be sharing the stage with:

DAVID LEASK Originally from Jedburgh, Scotland, David is a powerful performing songwriter, who has built an artistic bridge between the influences of his birthplace and the fresh possibilities of his adopted Canadian home to produce five critically-acclaimed CD’s and numerous international songwriting awards in different genres. Songwriters Magazine called David, “the most consistent Canadian songwriting competition winner.” He was also awarded the Mississauga Established Performing Artist of the Year. David’s sixth and latest recording, “Six in 6/8” has just been released.  A seasoned and commanding performer, having played nearly 2500 gigs in the last 20 years, David’s music draws from Celtic roots, Americana and country, topped up with a pop sensibility that brings to mind the talents of Van Morrison, Jack Johnson and Foy Vance.

ANDREA RAMOLO Andrea, one half of acclaimed Canadian folk-pop duo Scarlett Jane, has a new solo album, NUDA (Italian for naked). The album emerged out of a deep depression following a romantic breakup and a shift in her artistic path; but brought about a hugely positive metamorphosis, personally and creatively. Cool, dark, understated and melancholy, the alternative-folk album produced by Michael Timmins — a man who knows about melancholy and understated in his own band Cowboy Junkies — has a companion version of the same songs without a full band. Stripped down to its barest form, Da Sola (meaning by myself), was produced by her pal Faye Blais and features Andrea singing and playing either baritone or acoustic guitar.

TONY QUARRINGTON Veteran musician, Quarrington, has been a formidable and thriving presence on the Toronto music scene for more than 40 years. He first appeared at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1966, and played at many renowned Yorkville nightclubs and coffee houses in the late ‘60s, performing ballads, blues and his own original tunes.

I hope to se you there! And don’t forget, for choice seating, and to save $5.00, pick up your tickets in advance HERE.

And if you want to help this become  THE event to attend in October, please RSVP on Facebook HERE and share the event with fellow music lovers who might be interested in coming to the show. I will then be forever in your debt. (as if I’m not already).

Hope to see you there!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

Mel’s August Update

Mitch and I perform at Cross Currents Cafe in Bolton

Dear friends,

Summer is almost through and I’ve played outdoor concerts, festival shows and returned to Bolton as a feature for their fabulous Cross Currents Cafe series.  And I’m excited to announce I have another performance at Hugh’s Room coming up. Here’s the skinny! (do people even say that anymore?)

Shows:

The great thrill of playing for a second time at Toronto’s premier listening room,  Hugh’s Room,  will be here before  long. I’ll be part of a songwriter’s circle on Tuesday, October 9th, and they tell me I will be in good company!  Also, on Sunday October 14th, Mitch and I will have the pleasure of playing at the Bala Cranberry Festival!

Live video from Corks and Platters:

Soon there will be a few songs from my performance at Corks and Platters in Toronto available for viewing here on my website. I was so lucky to have the opportunity to play my second solo acoustic show at this cozy wine bar in Toronto.  Funny how well a glass of wine goes with live music.

Releases:

I’ll soon be releasing a second remix EP, “Refresher Vol. 2”, remixed by the fabulous Mitch Girio,  mostly for fun, but who knows – many of you may enjoy the fresh mixes! It’s allowing me to hear the old tracks in a whole new way, while I work away at my next full length album which won’t be released until 2019. Also Mitch, Hunky Pete, Lucky Pete and I have been putting together a folk EP which will be released this fall featuring tracks like ‘Lilian’ and ‘What You’re Selling’.

Patrons:

If you are one of my patrons, there will be a work in progress version of the video for ‘Kiss Me Like You Mean It’, available for your viewing pleasure on my Patreon page this later weekend. It is being edited by Nick Lim and features yours truly and clips from some of your favorite classic movies.  Also, lots of fun stuff avails if you decide to become a patron, so I hope you’ll check it out. For those of you who support me through Patreon, I could not be more thankful for your love and support.

Pure joy at Cross Currents Cafe.

To become a patron visit me at PATREON

More Show Dates:

Tangled Up in Bob!

Dear friends,

Well it’s that time of year again.  Bob Dylan’s bday is almost upon us (May 24th) and folks are getting all fired up to play/listen to his tunes at their local Bob Dylan tribute show. This is the first time I’ve been invited to play at one of these Bob Dylan tribute events, and in fact, I’ve been invited to play at two! I know this would have made my father proud, as he was a huge Bob Dylan fan. I became a Bob Dylan fan because of him. On the weekends dad used to play Bob Dylan tunes at the kitchen table while my sister and I ate the bacon and eggs Dad whipped up himself. Breakfast was never my favorite meal, but it was certainly more enjoyable when Dad would bust out his Gibson guitar and play Dylan tunes like “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright” and “Tangled Up In Blue” among many others. Needless to say, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play at these two Toronto events, especially as preparing these songs for you has helped me remember good times with my father. If you are in Toronto, I hope you’ll come have a listen. Here are the deets as I know them so far. If you need more info, feel free to reach out to me, I’m always happy to hear from you!

1-when: Wednesday May 23rd at 8:30pm-11:00pm. where: Hugh’s Room (2261 Dundas St. W) what: Don’t Think Twice – The songs of Bob Dylan featuring Paul James, Sultans of String, Michelle Rumball, Kyp Harness, Sue & Dwight and moi! $30.00

2- when: Thursday May 24th at 8:30pm-11:00pm. where: C’est What (67 Front Street E) what: Toronto’s longest running Bob Dylan birthday celebration. This year featuring all female fronted artists-Katey Morley, Cosima Grunsky & Rosie Driscoll, Shikha Sehgal and moi! PWYC

I’ll look forward to potentially seeing you there. Meantime enjoy spring!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson
