Corks n’ Dictators

Happy June!

This coming Wednesday night, June 13th, at Toronto’s Corks & Platters (2220 Queen Street East) I will be presenting a rare SOLO acoustic concert to showcase songs from my albums, EPs and new material too! Come join me at 8pm and hear my songs the way they were written, just me and my guitar. No cover, but there will be a tip jar for those of you who are feeling generous!

Also, Mitch Girio and Peter Collins will be joining me at Castro’s Louge (2116 Queen Street East) to bring you two sets of musical magic. Come on out! Tuesday June 19th 8:30pm-10:30pm. Again, no cover, but we will pass the hat around.

For those of you who can’t make the shows, but want to support my artistic journey, click HERE and join me on PATREON. Your support helps me cut out the middle man. I’ll be posting songs, and diary entries, that no one but my Patreon’s have access to. There are also REWARDS. And if you can think of a reward that might suit you better than the ones I have listed, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I will accommodate you, if possible. If you are already a Patreon, THANK YOU for supporting me…I wouldn’t be able to survive as an indie artist without your generosity.

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

Tangled Up in Bob!

Dear friends,

Well it’s that time of year again.  Bob Dylan’s bday is almost upon us (May 24th) and folks are getting all fired up to play/listen to his tunes at their local Bob Dylan tribute show. This is the first time I’ve been invited to play at one of these Bob Dylan tribute events, and in fact, I’ve been invited to play at two! I know this would have made my father proud, as he was a huge Bob Dylan fan. I became a Bob Dylan fan because of him. On the weekends dad used to play Bob Dylan tunes at the kitchen table while my sister and I ate the bacon and eggs Dad whipped up himself. Breakfast was never my favorite meal, but it was certainly more enjoyable when Dad would bust out his Gibson guitar and play Dylan tunes like “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright” and “Tangled Up In Blue” among many others. Needless to say, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play at these two Toronto events, especially as preparing these songs for you has helped me remember good times with my father. If you are in Toronto, I hope you’ll come have a listen. Here are the deets as I know them so far. If you need more info, feel free to reach out to me, I’m always happy to hear from you!

1-when: Wednesday May 23rd at 8:30pm-11:00pm. where: Hugh’s Room (2261 Dundas St. W) what: Don’t Think Twice – The songs of Bob Dylan featuring Paul James, Sultans of String, Michelle Rumball, Kyp Harness, Sue & Dwight and moi! $30.00

2- when: Thursday May 24th at 8:30pm-11:00pm. where: C’est What (67 Front Street E) what: Toronto’s longest running Bob Dylan birthday celebration. This year featuring all female fronted artists-Katey Morley, Cosima Grunsky & Rosie Driscoll, Shikha Sehgal and moi! PWYC

I’ll look forward to potentially seeing you there. Meantime enjoy spring!

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

3 opportunities in February

Dear friends,

A note to let you know of three exciting opportunities to hear me sing this week!

Valentine’s Night – I love this show for you because there is no cover (tips are welcome, and CDs will be available for sale a signing) and because it is reminiscent of my via rail experiences. A small, long room, designed for relaxing in comfort, with me perched somewhere, guitar in my arms, totally unplugged,  singing you my songs, just the way I wrote them. And throwing in a few cover songs you might recognize that you can sing along too, if you like. You can bring your main squeeze, or come on your own. Love might be on the way, so, if you are single, come socialize! I will be singing two sets, one at 8pm and one at 9pm. Come after dinner and enjoy a musical desert! Or come with an appetite and enjoy the new hummus feature on the menu (Peter’s famous hummus!) oysters and sparkling wine that will be available.  Or the yummy cheese plate. This venue is at 2220 Queen East, very close to my new digs, and the owner, Krista Pollet, is a dream. If you’ve never been, or if it’s been awhile,  come and check out Corks and Platters on Queen East. More deets and RSVP HERE.

And I’ve got two shows at Winterfolk this week: Sat Feb 17th I will be at Terri O’s (185 Danforth). This is my first time playing at this venue on the Danforth, and I have heard wonderful things, and the interesting bit is, my set is at 3pm! I’ll be joined by hunky Peter Collins on bass. You can come to the show after enjoying a delicious lunch on the Danforth, pick up a wristband at the door and check out all the amazying folk acts that are available to listen to over this weekend of folk music on the Danforth in Toronto. Click HERE for the Winterfolk schedule/more info about the festival. Click HERE for more deets and to RSVP for my Saturday afternoon show at Terri O’s.

The next day, on Sunday Feb 18th I’ll be playing in a song-circle at 8pm at Globe Bistro (2nd floor 124 Danforth). I’ll be sharing my original songs and stories alongside these two talented songwriters: Laura Fernadez and Linda Saslove. The show is called Ladies Night and will be hosted by songwriter David McLachlan. It’s been a while since I’ve done a song-circle (we take turns playing songs) and I’m very excited about this one. This is a great chance to sample 3 songwriters at once. Click HERE to RSVP and for more information.

Beyond that, I’m writing up a storm, and look forward to sharing new music, and offering you t-shirts at my shows, very soon! If you’d be interested in an online concert (for those of you not based in Toronto) I’m thinking about doing one of those in the spring/summer for you, so stay tuned.

Thanks for being a friend and a fan.

Hugs and mushy stuff,

Melanie Peterson

Relish Wednesday Night!

Happy February everyone!
